Department of Urology is the largest department
in whole of Central India giving the advanced state-of-the-art
treatment for diseases affecting genitourinary tract.
From its humble beginning in 2001 giving basic urological
care, it has progressed to having dedicated advanced
laparoscopic-endoscopic (one of the few in India) and advanced uro-oncology programme. Currently all kidneys surgeries
are performed either laparoscopically (key hole surgeries)
or percutaneous. Annually around 10000 patients
are seen OPD and 1200 to 1400 operations are performed.
Department has two operation theaters with one dedicated
for laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries which
runs from Mondays to Fridays. OPDs are on Monday,
Wednesday and Saturday from 9AM to 2 PM and emergency
care is given round the clock with support from
the casualty department. In patient care is given
at dedicated 30 bedded general ward and 4 bedded
postoperative suites equipped with bed side USG
and Minor OT. There is dedicated Stone centre (equipped
with Dornier Compact) for Lithotripsy of renal stones
and Urodynamic Suite of studying complex voiding
problems. A good number of patients are opearated
with compromised kidney function and for transplant
related procedure for which round the clock dialysis
facility is provided by Nephrology department.
Department has non didactic teaching programme for
its Senior residents appearing for MCh entrance
exams and it is also actively engaged in imparting
short training to MP Govt. doctors in basic Urology.
The department is recognized by MP Govt., BHEL,
GAIL, AAI, and host of other public and private
ltd. Companies for Urological care.
Apart from routine urological care the department’s
areas of interest are Minimal invasive management
of Stone disease, advanced laparoscopic Urology,
Renal transplantation and renal revascularization,
Uro-Oncology and Urethral stricture disease. Currently
department does around 200 PCNLs and 100 advanced
laparoscopic (ablative and reconstructive) urological
procedures. Department is actively engaged in Renal
transplant related procedures and does around 120
to140 complex redo vascular access and 40 to 50
CAPD catheterization. Department is eagerly waiting
to start Renal transplant programme and is currently
actively engaged with department of Nephrology in
providing surgical treatment for Ischemic Nephropathy
& Reno Vascular Hypertension in form of Auto transplant,
Auto renal Bypass and other revascularization procedures.
